The State of Sustainability in the Jewellery Industry

Fair Luxury, the pioneering movement for responsible jewellery, in collaboration with the Goldsmiths’ Centre, is set to host an unmissable event: The State of Sustainability in the Jewellery Industry, on 9 June 2025 at the Goldsmiths’ Centre in London. Almost a decade after their inaugural conference in 2016, Fair Luxury is once again rallying the jewellery, silversmithing, and allied industries to pause, reflect, and reignite the conversation around sustainability. In a world where ‘eco-friendly’, ‘sustainable’, and ‘ethical’ have become commonplace buzzwords, this conference invites the sector to dig deeper and ask the tough questions: How ethical are we, really?

The jewellery world stands at a crossroads. While significant progress has been made in promoting responsible sourcing, ethical production, and transparent communication, there is still a long journey ahead. Fair Luxury believes that jewellery, when produced responsibly, has the power to create sustainable livelihoods for all involved—from the miners who extract precious materials to the designers and retailers who bring exquisite pieces to life. They envision an industry that redistributes wealth fairly and respects our planet’s fragile ecosystems, offering beauty without compromise.

The setting for this vital gathering, the Goldsmiths’ Centre, plays a crucial role in supporting the jewellery and silversmithing industries. Dedicated to fostering lifelong learning, technical excellence, and community spirit, the Centre offers education, business support, workspace, and funding opportunities, helping close the industry’s skills gap and ensuring that creativity and craftsmanship continue to thrive.

This conference is deliberately designed as a live, non-recorded event to create an environment of open, candid dialogue. As Victoria Waugh, a member of the Fair Luxury team and co-founder of responsible fashion consultancy V&V, explains:

The Fair Luxury conference is a crucial opportunity to reflect on what we, as an industry, have achieved over the last decade, review learnings, and importantly recognise the significant efforts still needed to ensure the jewellery supply chain is a fair and safe place for all involved.

With tickets priced at just £35 per person, this is an unmissable opportunity to be part of a passionate, committed community that is redefining the future of jewellery.
