The Jewellery Trendbook 2024+

During the second day at VicenzaOro September 2022, Trendvision Jewellery + Forecasting organized the talk “Chromaverse” How the Metaverse and NFT’s are effecting consumers and the Jewellery sector. This event was followed by the presentation of Trendbook 24+. Let’s see some global upcoming trends highlighted at Vicenzaoro and try to understand the Metaverse revolution.

Global trends from The Jewellery Trendbook 2024+

Trendvision Jewellery + Forecasting, IEG’s independent observatory on the jewellery world, presented the world premiere of The Jewellery Trendbook 2024+ , a veritable bible for the international jewellery market that investigates emerging phenomena, the social panorama and consumer evolution over the coming 18 months. The trends presented by creative director and co-founder Paola De Luca reflect emerging social communities and individual expression with no clear boundaries of age or gender.

Gender fluidity, geometric shapes, irony, sustainability and storytelling: these are the global jewellery macro-trends that were the focus of one of the most eagerly awaited events at Vicenzaoro September.

Nanoceramics and 3D, sustainable, circular and recycled materials, shapes inspired by the textures of nature and surfaces kept in their raw state. Lastly, jewellery that communicates with the generations to come by preserving sentimental stories encased within. «Everyone can buy everything,» said Lynn Yaeger , contributing editor of Vogue USA and guest speaker at the debate.

Attention to brand values, sharing and communication transparency are three trends that distinguish Generation Z from Millennials and boomers, who see luxury as formality and well-being. Illustrating the new jewellery narrative was Rebecca Foerster, President of Hearts on Fire North America: «Generation Z interprets luxury as exclusive style, interacts with the brand and when they pay to have an object, they leave status aside and look for something that makes them feel unique. »

An example of the «no boundary» attitude that mixes cultures and roots in a contemporary way, is New York designer Angie Marei, founder of Marei New York, who draws inspiration from the figure of Nefertiti, a blend of femininity and masculinity: « Designers absorb the cultures and world around them, especially the religious symbolism to which jewellery is linked. Jewellery becomes wearable talismans, stones that give different kinds of energy. »

«Luxury and art can also merge in retail to give an excellent result. Art and culture can be coherent with business. If we look at a holistic experience that starts with food, it opens up to shopping in a place like Venice that hosts installations by artists,» remarked Anna Adriani, Communications and Marketing Director at Fondaco dei Tedeschi by DFS, a luxury store, restored by Rem Koolhaas and just a few metres from the Rialto Bridge.

The Metaverse revolution in the jewellery market

Metaverse, virtual reality, NFTs, Artificial Intelligence, digital platforms, apps, 3D viewers. In a world that is speeding towards technological progress, jewellery is being transformed and enriched with unprecedented functions and potential. Design and jewellery manufacturing meet technology and for the first time, they are entering the virtual and immersive world of the metaverse.

Joris Jeelof, NFJ LabsChief Marketing Director, presented the world’s first platform that digitalises unique physical jewellery to take it into the metaverse. In partnership with high jewellery designer Alessio Boschi. He has developed a virtual space to host ten of the artist’s unique designer pieces, which can also be viewed in virtual reality using the Oculus viewer. The platform is connected to a blockchain-based NFJ (Non-Fungible Jewellery) marketplace, where the items for sale can be bid on and bought in order to own both the NFTs and the original physical jewellery. A veritable revolution for the market and the way jewellery is consumed, which will allow designers to attract new types of customers and offer them an unprecedented buying experience.
