Today, I continue with my section of “The jewelers of our regions”. I take you towards Alsace to discover the precious universe of a famous jeweler in this region. This is of course Jean-Louis Roelly. Settled in Selestat since 1983, he has decorated his shop with great taste using help of local artisans. The love of art and beauty is present and seen everywhere in this magical place.
I started my visit by discovering his workshop and I could even see how he was making some jewelry. All stages of creation: the model maker, the jeweler, the setter, the engraver, are performed locally in Sélestat.
Then I talked with Jean-Louis about his career and his vision of the business. After completing his training in jewelry, he started his business by repairing antique jewelry. Over the years he developed his so beautiful signature by innovating and by allowing freedom in his jewelry creations. I loved his creations with beautiful opals … which is always my weakness for this beautiful gem
By working precious materials, Jean-Louis Roelly creates unique pieces, unusual and bespoke jewelry that became the specialty of the house. Each year a new collection of contemporary forms is performed to the delight of its customers. His jewelry with beautiful colored stones and a nice work of the surface, sanded or brushed, fully express the passion of Jean-Louis for his job. Craftsman of precious moments, he is always listening to its customers. He sees his job as “artistic profession” as an “area of artistic freedom” serving a loyal and passionate customer base. In 2008 he opened his 2nd boutique in Colmar and created the brand JL Roelly. For over 30 years, this family business has surrounded himself with the best craftsmanâs of the region and mastered the know-how.
So if you go through Colmar or Sélestat do not forget to take a ride in one of its stores. You will not be disappointed by the beauty of the place and definitely conquered by the beauty of his creations.\
