Every year at the beginning of the year, I dive into predictions for the next twelve months. As color is a very important element in the Watch and Jewelery sector, let’s look more closely at what shades to bet on in 2023?
In December 2022, the Pantone Institute, the world’s color authority, chose Viva Magenta as its color of the year for 2023 in the real world than the metaverse. Viva Magenta is a tone between carmine, crimson or raspberry. This powerful shade of red was chosen by the Pantone Institute because it inspires optimism and boldness.

Trend experts WGSN and the creators of the Coloro color system have jointly chosen Apricot Crush as the color of the year for 2023. This color was first introduced to the palette for A/W 23/24 by highlighting the focus on balanced lifestyles that nurture body and soul. This balancing gloss is an activating vitamin tone that embodies a full-spectrum approach to health and wellness. This restorative, refreshing and energetic hue is perfect as we grapple with a range of emotions and anxiety about the future. Through times of so much uncertainty, Apricot Crush continues to confirm its importance, acting as a color full of hope and positivity. Apricot Crush is versatile and gender neutral. Encompassing the natural vitamin- and antioxidant-rich goodness of apricots and oranges, it also taps into the beauty of nature.
Personally I see Barbiecore, the shade of pink which has been very trendy last year, coming to the end. I would bet more on a blue but we will see at the end of the year if I was wrong. The dopaming dressing will be slowly replaced by the dystopian core. Therefore darker colors will be back in 2023. These are the predictions based on my observations of the world.
For now let’s take a closer look at how the colors of 2023 can express themselves in the jewelry and watch industry. Red is definitely a beautiful color and can definitely be matched with jewelry and watches. The palette of red gems translates into rubies, spinels or garnets. The apricot color may be interpreted by shades of copper or red/rose gold. The apricot tones will be well illustrated by a padparadscha sapphire or an imperial topaz.
