Gemworld Munich 2021

Gemworld Munich 2021

Since 2009, Gemworld Munich has been organized as part of the Munich Show by Münchner Mineralientage Fachmesse GmbH, a family business from Munich. The last edition took place from October 22-24, 2021 and I had the pleasure of visiting this fair which was full of minerals, gems and jewelry. It was a first for me, so today I'm bringing you to Germany for a guided tour.

This edition welcomed 30,000 visitors in the four halls of Messe Munich. Munich Show brought together more than 300 exhibitors from Europe (Germany, Italy, Austria, France, Poland), America or Asia who presented the most beautiful jewelry creations, precious stones of excellent quality as well as books specialized or decorative items. Mineralientage is the perfect place to see a superb selection of fine specimens of collectable minerals, fossils and rare meteorites from around the world. Gemworld offers jewelry as well as a wide selection of gemstones from all over the world.

“We are extremely pleased that we were able to hold such a successful event under these conditions, and we owe it not least to our good relationship with our exhibitors, who supported us in the last year, which was so difficult for all of us, and enabled us to restart this year “

Christoph Keilmann, Managing Director of Mineralientage Fachmesse GmbH

This restart after a break last year, due to the health situation, is very positive and exceeds all expectations. Everything took place in accordance with a very strict sanitary protocol. The first day of the Munich Show was reserved for professionals of the sector and on the weekend it opened its doors to the general public.

The new concept rolled out this year, GemWorld CONNECT was very well received by exhibitors and visitors. This space dedicated to meetings with buyers and the international press made it possible to finalize the deals before the festive season. Gemworld is becoming without a doubt the important platform for the industry in the 2nd part of the year.

GemWorld promotes young talent with the Young Designers Corner competition. The ten finalists had the opportunity to present their creations to the public throughout the duration of the show. I had great pleasure in being part of the jury which was also composed of: Guido Grohmann, General Manager of the Federal Association of Jewelry and Watches, Sonja Kreis, jewelry designer, Catharina Schupp, editor-in-chief of the jewelry magazine. After a long discussion we agreed to award the following prizes:

Internet users voted for Cedric Albrecht from Germany who won the People's Choice Award. I was very pleasantly surprised by the complexity and originality of the pieces offered as part of this competition for young designers.

During this show I got to know Naomi Sarna whose work I admire. The artist who cuts gems by hand, giving them organic and original shapes, made the trip to New York.

Victor Tuzlukov came from Bangkok with his latest creations. Very well known, this gem cutter has unveiled two new stones which are listed in the Guinness Book of the Record.

Alexander Laut presented high jewelry pieces such as beautiful cocktail rings with colored gems, notably those with Paribas tourmalines or even earrings with emeralds.

The family brand Kreis Jewelery was a great discovery for me. They developed a special cut called “Alexander Kreis-Cut” like in this pendant with an aquamarine. Graphic and dynamic, this size gives elegance to the gem.

I really liked the "The Magic of Stones" exhibition in hall A6. Rare specimens of minerals from all over the world were presented in a beautiful setting.
